For a bycatch free fishery - Canceled
Not everything that comes in the nets or hooks is a fish. Bycatch of sensitive species is responsible for the death of 200,000 seabirds every year in European waters alone. In this lecture, we will present this issue and the work we have been doing at SPEA over the last 10 years. We will also show some solutions that have been tested, in cooperation with different fishing communities in Portugal. At the end of the lecture, we will show a sequence of photographs taken as a result of the cooperative work between scientists and fishermen.
