Life on hold

Life on hold

Temporary ponds are one of the most fascinating freshwater habitats. They begin to fill with the first autumn rains, and with the water comes life. Countless forms of life, plants and animals, occur in these habitats. But it all ends during the warmer months when these ponds dry up completely. Thus, plants and animals had to develop unique mechanisms that would allow them to survive this extreme transformation. Come learn a little more about the ecology, importance and threats that temporary ponds face. This activity is carried out in partnership with the Municipality of Lousada, the Conservation Biology Unit of the University of Évora and Almargem.
